February Newsletter #2

Hi everyone, we just have some updates from our previous newsletter already lots of events have been planned some of which we really need your support with!

Fundraising – Leigh Fishing Competition
On Saturday 17th of March, on the field of Leigh School, we are running a sausage sizzle/drink stall from 1-5pm and need a roster of parents to run this stall, for 1-2 hours. All food will be purchased we just require helpers on the day!   Also if you have 1-2 hours free on Friday evening to help prepare vegetables for the hangi at Leigh Hall.
This is a great opportunity for fundraising targeting people out of our community,
Please see Carmel if you can help out.

Family BBQ Invitation
You are invited to our Family BBQ Night:- a great opportunity to meet with Elysia and Kym and our new families in the community
Friday 2nd March, 5-30-7-30pm
Sausages provided just bring along drinks and salads etc.

5+ A Day   as part of our term focus we are discussing this concept with the children. If you  would like to share the healthy meals/recipes that your children particularly enjoy,  bring them in -maybe we could use them at preschool.  Thanks

We are celebrating Purple Day with the children on Thursday March the 1st to commemorate the Haiti Earthquake. We will do some purple coloured baking and if the children could wear something purple, if they have it that would be great.

Raised Garden beds at Preschool;
We have planted out our hanging baskets and some of our flower bed.  If anyone has any flower or vegetable seedlings for the children to plant they would be really appreciated. This ‘hands on’ experience for children is truly valuable, they help us plan out where the plants go, plant them and then enjoy watching the plants grow – so it is an ongoing journey of learning for them.

Our AGM will hold place at the end of March, at Preschool, date to be confirmed.
We have several parents leaving the Committee and need 2 -3 new parents to come on board to attend monthly meetings and to support the teaching team.  If you are interested and would like to know more either discuss with Carmel or a current Committee Member – (Megan, Pam, Jade, Angela, Janine, Nakita, or Shara).
So A Big Thank You to these parents for giving up their time for our preschool !!
Without a dedicated team of parents to donate their time and individual talents we can not run the preschool - Everyone’s contribution is valued.

Library Visit  - Thursday 8th of March 9.00am: Once a month we plan this visit which is supported by the School – (April’s class and alternatively Rooms 1 and 3) we will need 3-4 parents to support this visit which lasts until 9-30am

Welcome back to Preschool to all of our families and children. We all hope you enjoyed your Christmas and holidays.  We have made a few changes to the Preschool including; a new interior softboard covered hesian cladding to cover the painted walls, a Parent Notice board out on the deck so we can share information with you and some changes to the interior layout.  Please encourage your children to sign in when they arrive on session to help support their early literacy and writing skills.

At the end of last year we conducted interviews for new teachers and we are very pleased to inform you that we have been able to employ two new teachers on a part time basis.

Elysia Green will be working in the Under 2 area Tuesday to Friday with our infants and toddlers.  Elysia is a qualified, registered Teacher with previous Under 2 experience and has moved to live in the Pakiri area over the Christmas holidays with her family.

November Newsletter

Welcome Back to Term 4 Everyone, I am sure this term will fly by being only an 8 week term and with all the preparations for Christmas etc.  Well we have had a really busy few weeks with the Gala Preparation. We are pleased to advise you that we made just under $8,500 profit for the centre, which is a fantastic result considering that we had a lot less people attending the day than normal with the World Cup being on that evening.

We welcome Rico and Friija McGuiness who start with us next week and farewell Jack who is attending another centre.
A BIG THANK YOU to all the ‘parents and friends’ that helped us out, you are fantastic and we really do appreciate all your support, time and assistance that you donate to make this such a successful event for the centre.  Of course our many sponsors from the surrounding areas and some even down in Auckland provide the majority of the prizes for our gala so we thank them also, without their support this event just wouldn’t happen.  All our sponsors are included on the reverse side of this newsletter so please support them in return.
Morning Tea for Leigh Fisheries
We are going to make a morning tea for the team at the Fisheries to thank them for their Gala support.  So could each family please provide one plate of either savoury or sweet food, on Friday 11th of November.
Please have plate to Preschool before 9am so it can be taken up in time for their morning tea, Thanks
Free casual sessions
For the remainder of this term each child will be eligible for one free casual session each week, over and above their regular bookings. The conditions are that: it is on a ‘first in - first served’ basis and there are limited places each day.  Please note that this is not a regular booking and some days in the Under 2 area this may not be possible due to the number of children already attending that day. Please phone/see Carmel to discuss further.

Kapa Haka, Vikki Demant will be teaching our children Waiata every Friday morning at 9.00am  leading up to our ‘Christmas in the Pa’ concert on Saturday 3rd December at the Omaha Marae our children have been invited to perform.

Photolife, please read info in pockets and return money and forms etc to Preschool before Friday 18th of November.

Family social night: Sausages, Wine & Cheese etc, Silent Auction & Mystery ticket draw: $5 adults children free.  Friday 18th November 5-7pm

All Blacks flag flying at on our dingy mast – thanks to Vicki.

Gala – Sunday 23rd October 2011
Each Wednesday we will hold a gala meeting at 3-30 so parents can stay after they collect their children.  Everyone has received a list of things that can be done leading up to the Gala so from now is when we need your HELP:    Only 5 weeks to go – so we are counting down

Please check the list of jobs, come to a meeting, volunteer to run a stall on the day, we can support you with all the knowledge, resources and support you need if you haven’t done anything like this before. It is actually a lot of fun but we need everyone on board to make this a success.  We also welcome help and support from Family members and friends if they are up for the long weekend.

If you have any business contacts outside the Warkworth area that might be able to assist in donating product for the quick fire raffle or silent auction, we can give you a letter to request a donation for their records.  Please see Carmel.
A big hello from; Emma, Rob, Olivia and Tessa.  They are settling down well in London.  There is a gorgeous photo of Olivia on her First day of school on the notice board.
