This month we welcome Esme Rochford and Gabby Crabb and their families both of these girls are two and are settling in very well. Remember we only have 3 weeks until the end of term Friday 7^th of October, we return on Tuesday 25^th of October after Labour Weekend.

The World cup is getting a good following from children and the teachers, have you seen the

All Blacks flag flying at on our dingy mast – thanks to Vicki. 

Gala – Sunday 23^rd October 2011

Each Wednesday we will hold a gala meeting at 3-30 so parents can stay after they collect their children.  Everyone has received a list of things that can be done leading up to the Gala so from now is when we need your HELP:    Only 5 weeks to go – so we are counting down 

Please check the list of jobs, come to a meeting, volunteer to run a stall on the day, we can support you with all the knowledge, resources and support you need if you haven’t done anything like this before. It is actually a lot of fun but we need everyone on board to make this a success.  We also welcome help and support from Family members and friends if they are up for the long weekend.

If you have any business contacts outside the Warkworth area that might be able to assist in donating product for the quick fire raffle or silent auction, we can give you a letter to request a donation for their records.  Please see Carmel.

A big hello from; Emma, Rob, Olivia and Tessa.  They are settling down well in London.  There is a gorgeous photo of Olivia on her First day of school on the notice board.

The last day of Term 2 is Friday 15^th of July and Term 3 begins on Monday 1^st of August.

The next committee Meeting will be Wednesday 13^th of July

Thanks to the parents who have supported the centre recently by providing wood/ collage equipment, working on the fences, gates etc, we really appreciate your assistance.

The next Library visit to Leigh School will be Thursday 7^th of July.

Health Warning:

Please be aware that there has been an outbreak of Measles in West Auckland – please see notices for further information on parent board/sign in desk.

Reminders:

Please include a named bottle with water, spare clothes (on warm days we still have water play) and warm hats for colder days if possible for your children.

Carmel will be away on 27^th and 28^th of June for a Leadership Conference, Kym and Janine will be here to cover over these days. Jennie Leah will be acting Head Teacher if you have any queries.

IRD Tax Rebates

If any families require a receipt for the fees over the last tax year for IRD please ask Selena. She can complete earlier years also if you wish to claim a rebate.

Requests:  Spare shopping bags, any unwanted boxes for collage ie, cereal or attractive boxes, tissue boxes, gladwrap or tinfoil inner cardboard tubes.  We can also use cleaned egg shells for artwork, or anything else you might think we could use. Thanks

Parents/caregivers

The teachers appreciate you keeping your children at home if they are not well, if they have run a fever or experienced vomiting or loose bowl motions, just a reminder that your children must stay away for at least 24 hours after any of the above symptoms. Thanks

Leigh Community Preschool Newsletter  - May 2011

We welcome Jake Borich, Lotta Overath-Simpson, Jesse Salmond and Finn Muliaumasealii to the Under 2 area and Tamzin Foster and Van Smith to our Over 2 area.  Pipi, Sam and Mia have all started their school visits and they leave next month, we wish them all the best over at Leigh School

Could all parents/caregivers please ensure the gates are securely closed when you arrive and leave the centre.

Matariki Celebration:

Fundraising for Matariki celebration every Sunday night from 15^th – 29^th May. $10 Hangi packs ready for pick-up from Portside Café.  To place an order please phone:

Silent Auction at Preschool

We have three vouchers that were donated for last year’s gala which were not used but are due to expire over the next few months.

1 for WOF at Wilmot Toyota – value - $45

1 for WOF and service up to the value - $180 at Cameron Auto Services Ltd - Warkworth

And a Family pass for one powered site or accommodation unit at the Whangateau Holiday camp. They will be available to view at the office as a silent auction due to end by,

3-30pm on Friday  -  27^th of May 2011.

Missing: we seem to have lost quite a lot of our mobilo manipulative blocks, could parents check to see if their child has taken any home, they make great cell phones, trucks etc, thanks

Working Bee:  We may need a working bee soon to plant up our garden, sort out drainage problems and fencing areas so we will advise you as soon as possible

AGM News!

Thanks to everyone who attended the AGM last night, it was a huge success and we have elected our 2011 committee!  We also formed quite a few subcommittees for the year who will look after marketing, fundraising, grounds maintenance, etc. 

The next meeting will be Wednesday April 13th at 6:30pm at the preschool. 

Tuesday April 5th there will be a Teddy Bears Picnic at morning tea.  Children are welcome to bring a teddy bear or toy.  Parents please bring a plate to share for morning tea. 

The last day of the term is April 15th.

February Newsletter 2011

Welcome back to Term one to all of our children parents and teachers, of course some of you have been back during the January sessions as well and these have been a great success from all accounts. We have a special welcome for our new children and their families: 

Jaimee Keates, Genevieve Browne, Kalani Murray, Iskandar Shahriman and James Ensor who have all begun sessions in our Under 2 area and to Shiah Fenning and Jackson Edwards (who is Jennie Leahs’ grandson) who has started in our Over 2 area.  We also welcome Noah, Nealah, Arahia, Zane and Freya to this area also.

There have been some staff changes since last year due to government cuts to funding and restructuring. This year we have Jennie Leah in the Under 2 area and Jenny Crompton, Carmel and Vicki in the Over 2 area with Rae coming in for non contact release. We farewelled Adrienne at the end of last year,  Bree has left the centre and Rachel has a heavy study timetable so she is available only for relieving,  we wish her good luck for this year, Selena is still working Monday and Thursday in the office.

We are looking at 5+ A day over the next few weeks, please support us by packing lots of fruit/ veges and healthy food in children’s lunch boxes and only water in drink bottles. We are planning to bake with the children if you have any great healthy recipes that your children enjoy, please share them with us.

Upcoming Preschool Fundraising: February/March

Thursday Feb 24^th at 8pm

 At Matakana Cinemas – The premier of the “Love Birds” starring Rhys Darby

We will have a raffle with four different prizes. The movie tickets cost $20 which includes a raffle ticket and  we keep $7-50 of each ticket sold, so tell all your friends lets make this a great fundraising event to kick off the year.  Tickets available at office $20.

We are also selling tickets outside New World on Sunday 20^th of February 2011 from 9-30 until some time in the afternoon a list is on the sign in desk.

Leigh Fishing Contest:

Saturday 26^th March -   (1 – @6pm) Sausage sizzle/drinks etc down at Leigh School Field, we will need at least another 5-6 people to run this stall.

If you can assist us with either of these events to sell raffles or sausages please let Carmel know.

Auckland Dental Service

A Mobile dental van will coming to Leigh Preschool for screening children @ 10-00am on Wednesday 23^rd of March.  There will be a short education session first for children about brushing teeth etc and then children will be screened and a follow up appointment will be arranged if necessary for any work needed. Consent forms will be available shortly

Visit to Leigh School:

Thursday 3^rd of March – 9-9.30

2-5 year olds for sharing story time 1 to 1 with  children from the school, we will need 3-4 parent helpers, please see Carmel – children not normally on session could attend with parents/caregivers also.
